SUMMARY:LC3 Info Day Singapore
DESCRIPTION:A green cement for Sustainable Development \nSingapore is constantly upgrading to become a greener city. Its construction sector\, though extremely active\, faces many challenges. Construction materials account for 7 million tons of CO2-emissions per year\, out of 52 million tons for the whole country. The generated earth-based wastes such as marine soft clay demand space for disposal. The durability of reinforced structure is threatened by the changing tropical climate. \nThe purpose of this event is to invite policy makers\, industrial players and academic researchers to discuss a holistic solution to these challenges\, through the development of a novel construction material named LC3\, tailored for these challenges in Singapore and in the region. \nRegistration is now open \n\nDownload the Flyer \nPreliminary Program

SUMMARY:2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference - COP 27
DESCRIPTION:Global ABC event\nLC3: a revolutionary low CO2 building material\nConcrete is vital for building the green cities of the future and the infrastructure needed in the Global South. The development of limestone calcined clay cement (LC3) represents a saving of around 40% in CO2 emissions compared to traditional Portland cement\, which is based mainly on clinker. LC3 uses a substitution of limestone with calcined clay to produce cement with excellent properties even at high levels of clinker substitution. This cement also differs from “niche green” building materials due to the fact that suitable clay is abundant worldwide\, especially in the Global South where demand for new buildings will grow the most in the coming decades. \nPreliminary program\n\nOpening Speech\, Ms. Yvonne Baumann\, Swiss ambassador to Egypt\nImportance of embodied CO2 from construction\, Mr. Jonathan Duwyn\, Global ABC\, video\nWhat is LC3 and why is it a breakthrough construction material\, Prof. Karen Scrivener\, LC3\, EPFL\nThe role of calcined clay cement in reaching carbon neutrality in cement by 2050\, Mr. Thomas Guillot\, CEO of GCCA\nCalcined clay cement as key element in Holcim strategy to decarbonize cement and concrete\, Mr. Jan Jenisch\, CEO of Holcim Group\nCalcined clay cement potential in Africa\, Mr. Rajiv Garg\, UN-CTCN Regional Head Africa\, Western Asia and CIS\nLC3 potential in Egypt\, Ms. Anne Dekeukelaere\, Managing Director of Cementis\nQ&A to panel\n\nGlobal ABC’s event page is available here. \nYou can also follow the live stream. \nDownload the LC3 Brochure:

SUMMARY:4th ICCCSC in Nanjing
DESCRIPTION:Cement concrete is the largest amount of artificial cementious material worldwide\, and its impact on the world economy is huge. The energy consumption involved in the production of cementitious materials is high\, and CO2 emissions account for 8% of the total carbon emissions. Improving the sustainability of cement concrete has become a major issue to improve socially sustainable development. Internationally\, improving the low-carbon and sustainable characteristics of cement concrete is the focus of industry attention in recent decades. \nThe use of calcined clay in concrete\, which has developed rapidly in recent years\, produces a low-carbon cement-based material. Compared with traditional Portland cement\, its cement clinker content can be as low as only 50% due to the use of a large amount of calcined clay and limestone as the key components. Limestone calcined clay cement has outstanding mechanical and durability characteristics and is considered to be a global alternative to a wide range of traditional Portland low-carbon cement materials. Its application in Latin America\, South Asia\, and other places is gradually growing. \nThe conference has been held three times in Switzerland (Lausanne\, 2015)\, Cuba (La Havana\, 2017)\, and India (New Delhi\, 2019) as an important forum for low-carbon sustainable cement concrete. The 4th ICCCSC will be held in Nanjing\, China\, to focus on low-carbon sustainable cement production\, performance\, environmental efficiency as well as other topics to be presented in seminars.
