The kaolinite content in clay can be determined by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). However, this method is not available everywhere and it is also not possible to run more than one sample simultaneously. An alternative robust method is proposed using simply an oven and a balance. Based on the mass loss at three temperatures, 200°C, 400°C, and 600°C, the kaolinite content in clay can be accurately determined. An excellent correlation with TGA results was found.
